China is trying to follow America's space exploration footsteps leading to the First Man on the Moon in 1969.
Emphasis is put on satellite technologies, navigation and positioning systems, and lunar and space sciences, taking a step-by-step approach to human space flight, orbital exprimental stations, and deep space explorations with limited and well-defined scientific goals. There is a section devoted to weather, atmospheric, environmental and other civilian applications. Openness and cooperation with other nations are also stressed.
While national prestige and other advanced technologies will no doubt come with the Program, China is under no illusions for any space (not to mention arms) race and seems more focussed on the nations's aim of building a moderately prosperous society by 2020.
