The Mekong River ecosystem is the very livelihood of some 48 million people covering China's southwest Yunnan Province, all the way to Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Massive hydroectric power dam-building projects along the River course, mainly by China upstream, pose serious threats to eco-sustainability.
"Forging a New Course for the Mekong" is a report by ChinaDialogue, an international enviromental journal. It is a collection of expert articles showing that China needs to change its energy strategy in the Mekong region, promoting sustainable practices in the Mekong region, rather than simply shifting its carbon footprint downstream.
