Greetings! May I first wish you a forthcoming glorious summer! 

The world is at a rare inflexion point.  As many as 64 countries plus the European Union are having leadership elections this year, covering half of the world population and including those, like the U.S. and EU, of global consequence.

The U.S. is finding both feet stuck in deep mud over Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict with humunitarian disasters of biblical proportions.  The EU is struggling to cope with both a much-weakened economy and the looming prospects of an unpredictable second Trump-adminstration.

China has re-emerged from the economic ravages of a historically severe pandemic. It is beginning to,find its feet in a world economy transformed by the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions of borderless digitital connectivity. Howewver, the US-let Western camp is doubling down on anti-China "de-risking" or decoupling, friendly rhetoric and diplomatic overtures notwithstanding.  

Amidst the smoke and mirrors of this uncertain year, the following may hopefully offer some fresh food for thought.

The muddled contest for shaping the World Order is accelerating. In face of a seemingly endless proxy war of attrition in Ukraine and quickening 2024 U.S. election challenges, President Biden is walking a tightrope balancing a no-holds-barred China-containment campaign with America's best economic interests.

 

Meanwhile, the "Global South" tectonic plates are shifting, typified by recent Arab Peninsula rapprochements brokered by China and droves of  developing nations wanting to join the BRICS group. However, grappling with multiple headwinds both domestic and international, China is not yet out of the woods, notwithstanding signs of resilience belying much of anti-China doomsday rhetoric. 

 

Hopefully, the following may throw up some useful perspectives in navigating through an increasingly complex and treacherous world!

The protracted Ukraine war drags on regardless of recent Wagner Group shenanigans. Meanwhile, the world order remains in an epochal flux defined by intensifying US-China rivalry on all fronts. Countries in Europe, Asia, Middle East, and the rest of the developing world are adjusting their gaits as best they could. In all theatres, China has been in diplomatic overdrive. To make sense of what is happening around the world, a much better understanding of where China is coming from becomes even more critical.
